Soon-to-be-released inmates are training and gaining successful careers after prison
World-class graphics and physics, exceptional instructional designs, simulation modules, automatic performance tracking, and a proven track record of the most up-to-date software upgrades and products. Sounds exciting and enticing especially for the personal simulator world. This is what you will get when you partner with Simlog and Tech-Labs.
When the COVID-19 outbreak happened it created a substantial number of unfilled jobs, however, two years later and we are seeing a large re-entering of people into the workforce. Job sites are ready and willing to hire, but certain industries are in desperate need of qualified individuals and not just a warm body to fill a spot. Simlog’ s simulators are helping to fill the skills-gap in the construction, material handling, mining, and forestry industries. Their personal simulators are helping to train people to operate sixteen different kinds of heavy equipment.
Ready, Willing, and Qualified
When it comes to finding and training individuals Simlog and construction industries are thinking outside the box and focusing on an area of people who may otherwise go unnoticed and underappreciated. Soon to be released inmates. Employers are happy to hire “qualified” inmates, and by “qualified” they mean they’re looking for people who are ready to work and have received training. By offering training before inmates are released, they are given a chance to be successful in the workforce, thus leading to a better quality of life after prison and qualified individuals are filling the skills-gap.
“I’ve seen students (inmates) released and then cycle right back into the system within months, weeks, or even days,” says instructor at New Jersey Juvenile Justice System and Simlog customer, Earl Gayle. “But learning a skill positions more students to avoid another run-in with the law.”
Simlog’s most recent groundbreaking site has been in Florida, the Florida Department of Corrections is teaming up with CareerSource to create Florida HIRES (Helping Inmates Realize Employment Success). Their hope is that soon to be released inmates can have a fresh start and begin a fulfilling career. Inmates will train on Simlog’s personal simulator software that are aligned with industry standards by knowing through theory and doing by demonstrating their skills. They will also be tracked with performance indicators which can measure how quickly and carefully trainees are working. The software will show how well a student does on the software and allow them to compare their results to target values.
