Preparing Students for the ASE L4 Test

ASE L4 Training EquipmentThere is no secret that cars are getting smarter almost every day. To continue to work on advanced cars, technicians must be up to date on the latest and greatest training and certificates available. That is why Lucas-Nüelle and Tech-Labs are happy to share the training solutions focusing on the new advanced-level certification from ASE, the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) Specialist Test (L4).

The test is for technicians who diagnose, repair, and calibrate advanced driver assistance systems in modern automobiles and light trucks. Technicians who wish to take the test need to have passed either the Automobile: Electrical/Electronic Systems (A6) certification test or the Collision: Mechanical and Electrical Components (B5) certification test. As of Fall 2022 the L4 test is consists of 50 questions over a two-hour period. Technicians must do more than just pass the test to be certified they must also provide evidence of three years of relevant, hands-on working experience (or an approved equivalent combination of formal training and hands-on working experience).

There can be many challenges when training ADAS on real equipment. These can include high-cost and space issues, difficulty communicating the functionality, trainees may not be able to practice the static calibration procedures, and a lack of training equipment. Luckily, Lucas-Nüelle and Tech-Labs have put together a training solution using seven different modules to help. These include LIDAR - On the Road Autonomous Cruise Control, RADAR - Adaptive Cruise Control, Front Facing Camera – Lane Keeping Assistant and Departure Warning, Park Assist with Rear View Camera, Ethernet – Safe Data Transfer for High-Speed Applications, CAN BUS, and Vehicle Stabilization – ABS, ESC, and TCS.
